Victims or opportunists

I think it's fair to say in recent years our generation has embraced the world of technology , with sites such as Facebook and Twitter shaping our everyday routines as we procrastinate for hours learning every detail about those around us, whilst frequently updating our statuses so we too appear to be loving life. Yet is this real , or has the 'technological revolution' created a new expectation of reality as we feel we all need to be 'keeping up with the joneses' ?

The internet is used everyday by billions of people worldwide, and through the growth of  smart phones in the last 5-6 years access to the internet and social media lay right at our fingertips. Although, recently I have found myself wondering whether social media is really worth it, of course I enjoy using sites such as Instagram and Twitter, but as my usage has increased the cracks in their appearance begin to show. Thorough social media I have found develops a new stereotype that we all feel we need to live up because we too want to be accepted into the world of Tumblr, the world of pretty vintage Instagram and hang out with the 'cool kids on Twitter' and slowly but surely we find ourselves almost in a mid-teen state of insecurity as we act a way that we feel would please others rather than following our own individual pursuits.

Of course, this isn't necessarily a bad thing as we learn to communicate through social media which appears to be shaping our everyday world as more and more opportunities arise through blogs, YouTube and Instagram that we wouldn't have had access to before.  Personally, in the last year I have become a frequent user of Instagram and have now developed my own style of ig, adding my own personal twist on the popular, vintage and pretty theme. However, when I first started I feel I became a victim to the expectation of behaviour on Instagram as I would take pictures of soap and glory or lushbath bombs  against a Cath Kidston background , because I was so desperate to be like the girls who had  10,000 followers. Although , with the increase of Instagram and Twitter followers would it be wrong to say that prejudices have natural developed between young people ?  I think it would be accurate to say we appear to judge people on their followers rather than them as a person, for example if someone had 500 followers as opposed to 10,000 we would view them as less inferior, but is this right or do you think it's natural ?

I am aware that many of you may not agree with the views I have expressed in this post but I feel that  technology has really effected our generation, as no longer is it viewed as an escape from our everyday insecurities and pressures but a virtual world of prejudice, stereotyping and unrealistic expectations that we feel pressured to live up to. So next time you post a photo on Instagram, a post on Twitter or a comment on Facebook just remember to be yourself because individuality is unique and important amongst a materialistic world.

New Bedroom

Hello lovelies

I am aware that I haven't posted in 6 weeks, but I have just been so busy with the stress of a levels and exams! However, my room is finally coming together nicely, and all that if left to do is replace my carpet with wood flooring.

I really wanted to create a vintage theme in my room, so I have tried to pay attention to details to reinforce this. I love the bird cage which acts a candle stand, it is so pretty, and the vintage themed photo frames look really cute!

For Christmas my boyfriends mum brought me the most beautiful ornament which matches my theme perfectly , and the Yankee candles add to the colour scheme!

The next project for me was to find the perfect wallpaper , something that was pretty and classic. So of course I went to cath kidston and fell in love with the vintage rose wallpaper, it is so beautiful with an ivory background complete with pink flowers.

Then I brought two cute bedside lamps, because I love bedtime reading and they are perfect for this !

As for my bed, I kept my old one but added a vintage touch to it but covering it with my quilt I made in gcse textiles last year, which I just love so much. As well as this, I brought a vintage patchwork pillow that looks perfect with the quilt. Then to complete the look I covered the bottom of my bed with a quilt my great grandma made in the 60s, talk about a vintage find !
Lastly my grandad and my dad fitted my wardrobes so I have enough room for my clothes and shoes, allowing me to keep my room tidy and clutter free !
Thank you for reading,

Happy New Year Everyone !

Happy New Year !

I can't believe it's 2014, last year went so quickly!

I'm sorry I never post any blog posts but one of my new years resolutions was to try and write a new blog post every week. So in this post I am going to talk about some of my resolutions for 2014 and some of my best achievements of 2013.

Well where do I start for 2013, it was probably the best year of my life as I was so please with my GCSE grades, I achieved 3A*s 7As and 1B. As well as this I finally got a job working as a waitress at the Crown Hotel, which is a local hotel in Blandford where I live. I work in the Sealy suite, which is the function room so I worked at many weddings which was lovely. Also, I spent the whole of 2013 in a relationship with my amazing boyfriend Ollie, which was so nice and I hope 2014 will be the same.

I am now doing my A levels and I'm currently studying English language and literature, French, History and Philosophy and Ethics, so I can't wait to continue them in 2014 and hopefully achieve good grades in my AS exams.

My new years resolutions this year are:

  • To try and use the treadmill more, for example go on it every other day for 30 minutes.
  • To try and grow in my confidence a bit more.
  • To write more blog posts.
  • To try and interact more with my ig followers.
  • To try to pass French, because its the hardest subject in the world :'(
Thank you for reading, I would really appreciate it if you could leave any comments or tell me on ig what sort of things you think I should blog about.
